A graduate of the Steven Spielberg school of filmaking, The talented writer-director Robert Zemeckis seems to show himself as the next Spielberg. Born in Chicago in 1952, Bob studied filmaking at USC. While there, he met future writing partner, Bob Gale. The team's debut was I Wanna Hold Your Hand (1978), a nostalgic romp about the early Beatlemania craze. Spielberg helped them out as executive producer. Gale and Zemeckis later went on to write the screenplay for Spielberg's 1941 (1979). However, neither this film nor the team's next film Used Cars (1980) generated much box office attraction.

It was with the comedy/adventure flick, Romancing the Stone (1984), that got Zemeckis real attention in Hollywood. He made it big with the highly succesful time-travel film Back to the Future (1985) and it's two sequels, as well as the life action-animation epic mystery, Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988). After the critical and commercial failure of the gift of youth tale, Death Becomes Her (1992), he made it big again with the story of Forrest Gump (1994), a movie that went on to be one of the highest grossing films of all time, right behind Star Wars. Zemeckis is also the producer and part-time writer of the hit HBO horror series, Tales From the Crypt. With such a resume, Zemeckis just might be able to fill Spielberg's shoes after all.
