Tarantino has become, in two years time, one of the most appreciated film mavericks of his time. Tarantino, born in 1963 in Knoxville, Tennessee started out in film (so to speak) working in a video store for four years, acquiring a large amount of film and media trivia. He debuted as a director and screenwriter with Reservoir Dogs (1992), a brutal cops-and-robbers story about members of a diamond heist ring. The film's budget was originally slated at a mere $35,000, but the budget expanded to $400,000 when Harvey Keitel became interested in the script, and eventually agreed to star in the movie. The film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in 1992 and was snubbed for an award by the jury. However, the critic's reaction was magnificent, and Tarantino was praised as the next Scorsese.

But..his next film Pulp Fiction (1994) is a film full of ultra-gritty characters and an incredibly edgy storyline that Scorsese never even dreamed about. The film became one of the most popular films of 1994, though it was snubbed at the Academy awards, because of the biases of the Academy. Tarantino has since tried his hand out at acting, but in my personal opinion, he sucks! Still, I like him because of his sense of humor in his stories, his visual flair and a directing style that packs a punch. I also like him, because in a way, he's a lot like me. He knows a lot about films, TV and other various forms of pop culture, as do I. His acting efforts are the only thing that spoils an otherwise promising career behind the camera.

My rating on a scale of 1 to 10: 8
