Hispanic-American director Rodrgiuez, born in 1969, has become a force to be reckoned with in the past five years, since his film debut El Mariachi (1992). Known as a director of hyperkenetic action-pulp-melodramas, Mariachi gained notoriety for its $7,000 budget, for what Rodrgiuez went through in getting it filmed (party of which involved donating his body to science) and the fact that it was better than most recent big-budget hollywood action pictures!

His follow-up features (Mariachi sequel Desperado (1995) and vampire flick From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)) have been less succesful, but they are still full of the same high-octane energy that makes Rodriguez popular on the Indie circuit.
