Michael Moore
December 9, 1996
Michael Moore is one of the 1990's best satirists. Born in 1954 in Davison, Michigan, he was originally the editor of The Michigan Voice, before he became a director. In 1989, he received his first attention with Roger & Me, a darkly humorous documentary, which looks at the town of Flint, Michigan and the effects of the closing down of various auto plants by automotives giant General Motors. It was a huge commercial success and became the highest grossing "non-fiction" film of all time. His recent work includes the recent "fictional" comedy Canadian Bacon (1995) and as host of the scathingly funny political commentary program, TV Nation. I've had the good fortune of meeting the man and he seems to have more charisma than any of Hollywood's leading "hunks". His films are full of humor that take some viscously funny jabs at corporate America. Let's just hope that the laughter doesn't die, and Moore with
it.
