This is a excellent movie. The plot revolves around a college university full of different ethnic and racial backgrounds. The movie follows some of these students through the entire school year. It is hard to tell who the star is, but it seems there aren't any stars. The people and their stories are followed so closely that it's hard to tell. There are at least three of them. One is a young black man (Omar Epps) who is trying to become a track star but has strong resentments toward the school and joins up with The oldest senior (Ice Cube) to learn about what it is to be a black man in America today. The second character is a woman (Kristy Swanson from "Buffy The Vampire Slayer") who becomes a tragic victim of date Rape. Her only true friend is a lesbian and women's rights protester (Jennifer Connelly) who learns the truth and helps her out by forming a peace concert on the campus. The third and final character is a party animal (Michael Rappaport from "Zebrahead") who joins up with a skinhead club and begins to start a racial riot on the campus. All in all, it is a truly excellent film with a great comeback for "Boyz N The Hood" director John Singleton who really knows his characters. Also, the three stars Epps, Swanson and Rappaport give truly realistic performances. But, the best performance is by Laurence Fishburne as the teacher who wants Epps to learn and increase his mind. I hope this gets some Oscar nods next year.

This movie is interesting to see, but is not worth seeing twice. I went into the theater expecting (from what the previews told me) this film to be a hysterical comedy, but I came out disappointed to find that it is a rather sad movie. Now, don't get me wrong. I like good tearjerkers and there were funny scenes in it, but not enough for the subject matter. The film is out a kind of road trip across America. The passengers are all women. The performances were good. Whoopi Goldberg is especially good as a lesbian rock singer showing more of her comedic stuff. Mary Louise-Parker plays a woman dying of aids. The real surprise of the film was Drew Barrymore in her first truly good performance as an adult. Frankly I thought she was finished after that bomb, "Bad Girls".
Barrymore's part is a drug dealer's pregnant girlfriend who may or may not have killed her boyfriend. Drew actually has good lines this time and is finally shaking off the days of E.T. and Poison Ivy. These three share a trip from New York to Tucson, Arizona. It is a true feminist film in the style of "Thelma And Louise" and "Fried green tomatoes". Still it's a little bit preachy on subjects as abortion, drugs, lesbianism and aids. I'm not going to tell you the ending. All I can say is it is quite the cliche and some may not like it. But, the preachiness does not destroy three good performances by Goldberg, Parker and for the first time, Barrymore. My favorite scene in the film is between Goldberg and Parker, who is a total girl scout, when Parker is asked by Goldberg what she calls the sexual organs below the waist. I'm not going to tell you anymore about that scene except it's the most hilarious scene in the film. I'm not sure this movie is for every one's taste but it was a good film. The drama is, aside from the preachy scenes, actually good with kudos going to Goldberg and Parker.

This is my last review of movies in the theaters. This movie, Outbreak, is the most tense movie I've seen in years. It is about how a deadly virus breaks out in a small California town and the government plans to try and stop a lethal outbreak. When I said tense, I meant it. It had me on the edge of my seat trying to find out who would win, the scientists trying to stop the outbreak or the virus? There is another good performance by Dustin Hoffman as the head
scientist in charge of stopping the virus. The first five minutes are good taking us into the jungle where the virus evolved. But, the next fifteen minutes after are a little slow. Slow, that is, until people start dying. Then, it never lets up for the entire movie. It is very fast paced, very interesting subject matter and very scary. The reason it's scary is that something like this did happen out in Virginia...almost. The disease is spread by a monkey that is imported into America. At first, the virus can only spread by certain types of physical contact. Then, it evolves into an airborne disease killing off hundreds of people. The supporting cast is quiet good. Rene Russo from "In the Line of Fire", Morgan Freeman, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Donald Sutherland as the bad guy.
It is very realistic in the way you watch the virus take effect and the ways the scientists and army controls it. The last few minutes, for you action fans, are a wild ride in a sort of race-against-time climax that will have you on the edge of your seat.

This film is for the die hard Pink Floyd fan. There isn't much to the plot except that it's a rock star slowly going mad in his hotel room. Whether He is hallucinating about odd things or remembering the bad memories, it doesn't really matter, because it is the weirdest trip I have ever seen. All in all this has great music for people that like Pink Floyd and some fantastic images to get stoned on. You should also check out the animation in here. Just remember this isn't a movie that just anybody can like right away, but definitely for you Pinkheads.

Now I know that some of you don't like the classics but if you start watching them and liking them then this is the movie to start on. It is a "Spaghetti Western" meaning it was made by Italians. That does not make it a bad movie. The dubbing in it is bad, but you will pay attention to the action and the scenes. This film is an early Clint Eastwood film and it was this film that made him well known. It is a sequel to two other movies that will be talked about later on. The story is rather simple about a hunt for gold. But, the acting is so well done with Eastwood (The Good) as the man with no name. Lee Van Cleef (The Bad) a ruthless bounty hunter and Eli Wallach (The Ugly) a small time thief. All know at least half of the secret to where the gold is buried and are always trying to double-cross each other into finding out each other's part of the secret. There are plenty memorable scenes in this film and it is pure enjoyment

This film, for those who have not seen it, is truly good. It is a werewolf film for those of you who are wondering but is not a full blown wolf movie. It doesn't have all the big werewolf effects that all the others have. It really doesn't need any because it has good acting from Jack Nicholson. He gets bitten by a wolf on a country road while driving back to New York from New England. Then, new things start to happen. His senses become better than ever and he starts to look younger then he is. The transformation and Jack's discovery of his new powers are truly great from a great actor. He doesn't become a full blown wolf that runs on all fours and then changes back to a naked man. It would be a little old fashioned and might keep away some werewolf fans. But Jack is so good that he doesn't need any make-up. He can make you believe he is a real wolf just by an expression on his face. The supporting cast is good with Michelle Pfeiffer as the woman Jack falls in love with. James Spader is quite good in the typical yuppie performance. Yes he is still playing a slimeball, but what a slimeball!
