Never Together

by

Dritan Zaimi

My dream fell asleep.
... slept deep.
When it woke up,
I was sleeping forever.

Somewhen, somewhere

by

Dritan Zaimi

Timeís up my friend
and I should go.
letís shake hands
and say goodbye.
Oh no, donít worry
no fear, no effort, no strain,
when it comes nobody sustains.

The gate will be open
and I will be rowing to another land,
there is a place we should go,
you know that, my friend.

There will be dear people
to see me off,
forgotten ones will be waiting
in another shore.

Oh come on my friend,
it is worthless to pray.
Something we know for sure,
somewhen, somewhere,
we will see each other over there.

The End Of Pain

by

Dritan Zaimi

Still will I keep my silence.
By keeping silent, cry.
Through weeping, I will come to laugh;
from laughing I will die.

Translated into English by Anthony Weir and Zana Banci

The Price of Love

by

Dritan Zaimi

Love can not be bought.
love can not be sold.
Love can only be loved.
Only the heart pays the price.

Poor

by

Dritan Zaimi

An angel gathers souls
in this world.
Another one gives them away.
We just live.
Neither take, nor give.
Donít know what we possess.

The Rainbow

by

Dritan Zaimi

After the rain
a shimmering shawl
unfolded and paraded
above the hill

Butterflies swarmed
and drank the rainbow
after the flowers.

Translated by the poet and Anthony Weir

Fear

by

Dritan Zaimi

It happens in the night,
As we're walking along the street,
Something moves away.

Like a phantom it appears
A shadow in the way.

Horror fills us all
And we're feared to death.
Hesitatingly we move along
No time to take a breath.

Our blood runs cold
And we freeze up like a stone.
In our terror we see,
A man approaches in flesh and bone.

IMBECILES

by

Dritan Zaimi

Those we don't understand
we call stupid
Those who don't understand us
we call stupid.

Surprise, surprise -
the world is filled
with imbeciles!

Translated by Anthony Weir and Zana Banci

Forgotten We Are

by

Dritan Zaimi

You forgot to say "Goodbye"
When you left me.
I was waiting for you.
You should come.

Tired of waiting I set thinking,
And I recalled that you didn't say
"See you" either.

You forgot to say.
I forgot to remind you.
Now forgotten we are.
Although we never said goodbye.

Only the heart

by

Dritan Zaimi

I gave my pain to the sea.
It roared!
I gave my pain to the sky.
It thundered!
I gave my pain to my heart.
It remained silent.

Without Identity

by

Dritan Zaimi

I go mad
Whenever I judge my self.
I am so little of the stuff
I wanted to be.
My mind and heart
each seem to have come
from a different origin.
How can they be
In harmony within?

I have been lost
through years gone
and now I don't know
What shall of me become.
For neither heart
nor brain performs,
things pass smoothly
and no one takes the response.

I am not the man
I was supposed to be
Neither did I turn out
the other way of me.
And what about God?
I wonder what
shall He judge in me?
The person He was expecting to see
Or the one I never turned out to be.
For I am none of them.
