That Retched Day

by

Deon Yearwood

For once we joined hands
and forgot our differences,
as the sun set on our accomplishments.
We watched our dreams
fall like the great pyramids
as the devil snickered in the dark.
We pray to the gods for forgiveness,
as we cry out with our hearts and souls
to mourn our dearly beloved.

A year has passed,
since that retched day.
A moment of silence is underway.
We bow our heads to the lord we pray
bless the lives of our beloveds
today.
