Comrade Norah

by

S. J. Wilson

Born and bred for Struggle and wed to The Thought

You walked behind Gonzalo along a shining path

The corner of death, oppressed indio shades

Mute with fury your lips trembling with The Passion

Pensive, madonna, I burn before your seated image

Another dimension, bloodless business, dim and comfortable

I know nothing of your hardships, torrential rain and mud

Sacrifice of motherhood for The Cause against rape of land

You embraced the children of Inca to your breast

Augusta, you offered your beating heart to the altar of sun

Molten ebony eyes, crow hair, flesh and blood long gone

You float above this relentless sickle of crimson Fathers

Departed from material universe, none return

Your glowing shadow flickers within
