Dance Barefoot On

by

Susan Whelan

Dance Barefoot on

Drafts of cold and bitter
Air lingering in August,
No warmth evident, even the
Crescent moon is shivering.
Elusive heat, I have found you
Below tired wilted leaves of green.

Amidst the deepest patch you hide
Reclusive. I will lure you with my
Epsom salt, i will be the piper, wild
Frolicking bait. I will hang my clothes
Over the footbridge and dance barefoot
On the dying leaves to call you.

The dying leaves dance barefoot, love.
- Do you?
