Now That You're Gone

by

Anna Vigdorova

When I was down, you helped me up.
When I was helpless, you gave me strength.
When I was blue, you brought color into my life.
I am so thankful for this, my friend.
But, how will I repay you?
I guess I will never find out, now that you are gone.
I remember us hugging, and laughing, and crying that morning when you left.
(I bet that you, like I, didn’t know that we were saying goodbye for the final time.)
Then, you made me promise you that I would visit you in New York.
You said we’d go out for pizza and a movie, and then go see the Twin Towers together.
I guess we can’t do that anymore, now that you’re gone.
Some people call it "losing you" but I know my friend,
You are not lost. You are just gone.
Now that you’re gone, my life will never be the same.
I will wake up every morning wanting to call your house,
But suddenly remembering the horrible truth.
You are gone.
I will not break my promise, and visit you in New York.
And I’ll go out for a pizza and a movie, and see the Twin Towers in your honor.
I wish you were still with us, my friend.
But you are not.
You are gone.
Forever.
