Rain Dreams

by

Kysha Thomson

The pitter-patter of rain on the sleek iron roof,
Plays a lullaby to children sleeping silently,
Retreated to the land of the fields of dreams.
Tree limbs groan and sway in the darkness of night,
Puppets played by harsh winter winds.
The swish of papers dancing with the trees,
The most graceful ballet by eyes ever seen.
Now come the soft tread of snow at the stoop,
Time, all you flowers and trees, for your rest.
Sleep through the winter under your mantle of white,
See you again when this gloom turns to light.
When, once more, squealing children roam free,
Picking flowers for mummy, to take home in glee.
