Alone

by

Luke Teoh

Alone in my thoughts
I listen...
Listening to my inner self
Comforting
Assuring myself
That I'm not alone
I have solitude with me!

Alone in my thoughts
I talk...
Telling my inner self
My hurt
My pain
Im glad I have solitude
To share my agonies with me!

Laugh!

by

Luke Teoh

Laugh!
Always laugh!
In jocund company
If you do not wish to,
Just smile and grin.

Laugh!
Laugh until you cry!
In merry-making
But if do not wish to
Just giggle or chuckle.

Laugh!
Boisterously
Or in silence
Have a good laugh
Even if you do not wish to.

Two Souls...

by

Luke Teoh

Swear words
Four-letter words
A string of expletives
Always spouting from the mouth
Tactless
Rudeness personified
What an obnoxious and discontented soul!

Pleasant words
Kind words
A flow of cheer
Always oozing from the heart
Tactful
Politeness personified
What a charming and contented soul!

The Two-faced Kind

by

Luke Teoh

A face wreathed in bonhomie
A silky voice
A sultry smile
That is all it takes
To deceive, hurt
Or confuse most people.

How one wish one were stronger
Bolder
More intelligent
More street-wise
To outfox, outwit
Or outsmart the two-faced kinda

True Beauty

by

Luke Teoh

Face lifts
Silicon-implants
Liposuctions
Bringing on the big-C eventually
An exercise in futility!

Big smiles
Kind words
Generosity
Bringing on happiness
Beauty truly personified!

Regrets or Relief

by

Luke Teoh

Falling in love
Falling out
Meeting again, years later
It's either with regrets
For not making out
Or relief one's got out

Bring Good Cheer

by

Luke Teoh

Don't gripe, grumble or complain,
Don't whine, moan or lament,
Don't criticize, censure or condemn,
It's better to be quiet
Much better to praise or cheer
It'll make both you and me
Happy and bright!

Don't Ever Let Toxic People Spoil Our Fun

by

Luke Teoh

Toxic people are no fun
Keep away from them
Avoid them
But if you can't
Don't ever lover yourself to their levels
Or shoot them with a gun

Don't ever let toxic people spoil our fun
Always arm yourself with indifference
Be selfish
Think of yourself
In the long run
Life will be great fun

I Am What I Am

by

Luke Teoh

Don't ever test me
I do what I do best
I know myself
I'll do whatever I like best.

Don't ever stop me
I enjoy what I do
I know myself
I'll do whatever I enjoy.

Don't ever judge me
I am not perfect
I know myself
I am what I am.

Meeting Someone Kind

by

Luke Teoh

Meeting someone kind and cordial
Gives me a happy feeling
Shooting happiness through my every vein
How I wish you'd meet
Someone kind, too
Every day of your life

So Tragic!

by

Luke Teoh

The richest man in town
Rags-to-riches story
Humble
Philantropic
Kind to everyone
He was a friend to the poor and to the wealthy

However, he was beset with tragedies
Only son brutally murdered
Daughter-in-law killed in a traffic accident
Only grandson fatally hurt from a highrise fall
The end of the line
There was no one to inherit his wealth or fortune.

He had so much, yet so little
No loved ones
So little happiness
Emptiness buried in wealth
Nothing really to enjoy
He was found dead in bed early one morning.

A Teetotaller and a Gin-toting Girl

by

Luke Teoh

A teetotaller meets a gin-toting girl
She drinks from morn to dusk
He doesn't
Plenty of gin; plenty of sex
He's so obsessed with her
He does everything.

Becoming religious and celibate
She prays from dawn to dusk
He doesn't
No more gin; no more sex
He's so obsessed with her
He hopes she'd again tote gin.

Say No-no

by

Luke Teoh

Say No-no and No
To anything
That'll hurt you.

Say No-no and No
To anyone
That'll harm you.

Say No-no and No
To anything
That'll stress you.

Don't ever do anything
That displeases you
Don't ever please anyone
That stresses you.

Wrong Choice

by

Luke Teoh

He flies
She does not
He's faithful
She is not
How can they ever think
Of tying the knot!

Don't be so Blind

by

Luke Teoh

So beautiful
But so syrupy
Be careful of wily ladies
Who'd charm you blind

So handsome
But so scheming
Be careful of playboys
Who'd rob you dry

So Empty

by

Luke Teoh

One may have everything
All the riches in the world
But without love
Everything will seem dreadfully empty

Love is everything
It rule's one's destiny
And without it
Everything will be definitely empty

Postpartum blues

by

Luke Teoh

Poets die young, they say
No one knows why
Famous novelists commit suicides
No one knows why, either
So be wary
If we were to give writing a try
Postpartum blues may come by and by.

Others may shun us
Or run away in fright
On seeing we have postpartum blues
With the birth of our books
Well, forget their ignorance
Their actions endorse our creative licence
Postpartum blues will leave by and by

Two Marriages

by

Luke Teoh

Courtship...
Whispering sweet nothings
Tying the knot...
No talk
But constant nagging
What a dreary life!

Courtship...
Whispering sweet nothings
Marrying...
Less talk
But regular praising
What a great life!

A Road Hog

by

Luke Teoh

A road hog in a soup-up car
Scorches down the fast lane
With no road safety in mind
Thinking he's a Formula One driver
Hoping to complete his journey
To a jeroboam of champagne
Ends up in a coffin, instead.

Two Beings...

by

Luke Teoh

Toothless,
Cherubic-faced,
Gurgling away non-stop;
Lying in a crib
Watching a new colourful mobile
Blowing in the wind,
Waiting eagerly for someone to cradle him
In a home filled with so much love.

Toothless,
Hatchet-faced,
Grumbling non-stop;
Lying on a bed
Watching an old ceiling fan
Clacking slowly round,
Waiting hopelessly for someone to visit him
At a home for aged forsaken.

Do Whatever That Pleases You

by

Luke Teoh

Whatever you do
No matter what
No matter how
Somewhat
Somehow
Someone
Will not be pleased with you!

So why trouble yourself
or be troubled
Do whatever that pleases you
Somewhat
Somehow
Someone
Will be pleased with you!

You Have Mail!

by

Luke Teoh

Sitting in front of a blank monitor
A man keys in with one finger
His hurt and his pain
His joy and his happiness
He's glad he's got Microsoft Word
To overcome the vicissitudes
Of old age - loneliness and boredom

With a click of the mouse
He sends by e-mail
His hurt and his pain
His joy and his happiness
He's glad he has World Wide Web
To help him connect with his friends
He hopes they'll share with him
Their happiness or pain, too.

A Happy Soul

by

Luke Teoh

Jovial,
Easy-going,
A cheery greeting to all
That's all it takes
To be a happy soul.

Expect Nothing in Return

by

Luke Teoh

Give help to everyone
Expect nothing in return
As the world is full ingrates
Who will never acknowledge
Let alone reciprocate!

If you were to give freely
And the word, " ingrate"
Is never in your vocabulary
You will never ever burn
With indignation or regret!
