Finding Peace

by

Ronald M. Sutton

Lustful feelings, for what comes to mind,
Time is fleeting but I feel fine,
Always ingrained in that what feels good is "wrong",
Inner turmoil has been here to long,
The fallacy of purpose has eluded me,
My dreams are lost, in constant reverie,
All any man seeks, ever since they were a boy,
Is to find that one true thing, that brings us joy,
But can you keep it, can you make it last?
Just like a child, we grow up to fast,
These are the testimonies of a discombobulated mind,
To remember the past always helps me to unwind.

Eye on the Prize

by

Ronald M. Sutton

The strength to achieve, I fear, has lot me.
I branch out to reach the nourishing light,
and even that, I feel, has lost me.
Forced into a battle on a wasteland of regret.
Pinned down and almost out of ammo,
The enemy is all around, but you can’t see them.
Their voracious appetite ready for their next meal,
Like a feline that has it’s eye on it’s prey,
They are relentless in their pursuit.
The storm is coming, and you seek the eye,
The serenity of the sun piercing the clouds,
But the fox hunt persists as you find a hole to hide in,
Breathing shallow, shaking uncontrollably, nerves take over,
You seek order, you seek peace, you want out,
Sacrifices to be made, so many choices, so many outcomes,
Through all the adversity, you should come to realize one thing,
If you learn to have the same persistence as your enemy,
You will find it, and hopefully, it will be worth it.
