Push

What I've loved from her addiction
she's so dark around her eyes
and she's so sexy when she smiles
and her black lipstick drives me wild

when she moves, she's like a cat
she's crossed my path now, 13 times
she's broken mirrors in my mind
she's such a junkie but she's so fine

her dress is made of leather
with a pocket for her perks
and at the bottom of her purse,
a velvet bag to hold her works

her skin is ghostly white
her skin is soft but no one knows
she's got a scar that never shows
but it's with her. whereever she goes

Do you really want to know what love is really like?
do you really want to know?

She lays down on my floor
with a pillow behind her head
she wonders what it's like to be dead
"don't talk that way," I said

But she pushes me on further
like she knows something inside
something dark I tried to hide
And now she's become my guide

I swore I'd never fall in love
but I did that very night
because I see now. she was right
Now my skin is ghostly white

Do you really want to know what love is really like?

My Big Place

by

Simon

I gave her all my money
she gave me her heart
I helped her through some hard times
she said we'd never part
then one day she left me
she couldn't stand to see my face
now there's too many empty rooms in my big place

I tried too hard to hold her
I tried to show her that I care
but she'd put on her makeup
and she spent hours with her hair
and now with all thats happened
all that time cannot erase
There's too many empty rooms in my big place

so if you find someone who loves you
and you've made all kinds of plans
you'd better hold on to your woman
and you ladies, hold on to your man
because if you start making phone calls
remember phone calls can be traced
and there'll be too many empty rooms in your big place

and if you feel like giving up
because love can be purloined
remember Jesus Christ Himself was sold out
for thirty silver coins
and they put Him on His Cross
and the tears rolled down His face
so there'd be no more empty rooms in His big place

For Ami

by

Simon

What could I say about Ami?
Could I make up something that rhymes?
Because I know nothing about her
this will be only a few simple lines

Her hair is probably some color
Her eyes I really wouldn’t know
She’s got this thing called System 7
(I think that might be her stereo)

She lives in Bath, (that’s in England)
So her accent might sound funny to me
But I wouldn’t laugh, because it wouldn’t be right
Ami is my friend, you see

I believe she writes when she’s all alone
She seems to be someone who’s kind
She feels too much, that’s obvious
She’s got a heart that’s beating in time

Now let me say a few words about Simon
He’s a young man in need of some help
He sits in a room with a head full of gloom
Drawing pictures, of himself

I don’t think he would ever hurt anyone
He doesn’t know that many words
There’s really not much to talk about here
Let’s just say that the boy is disturbed

But remember this song’s about Ami
So let’s stop beating about the bush
Since you wrote System 7 for me
You can have my love song, Push

Statues Made of Stone

by

Simon

The statues are made of stone
in the garden by the lake
as I wander through, I look at every face.

The sky is azure blue
the grass, impossible green
and standing here, a cat sits at my knee.

I must have stayed too long
looking in those eyes so blind,
when something flashed like a camera in my mind_

Remember when we were younger?
Somewhere I lost a page in time.
The magic is missed in the moon glow,
the day bows out of sight

In the garden of stone,
in the garden tonight.
In the garden of stone, everything turns out alright,
in the garden tonight.

I hear my voices behind me,
it was time to go back home,
but I have turned into something_
something made of stone.

The statues are made of stone
in the garden by the lake
as I wander through, I look into every face.

The Death Of Simon

by

Simon

I've got bad news about Simon.
Today we had to put him down.
Well, we really didn't even do anything
but he fell in again, and we just let him drown.

Don't act like you're all shocked and upset,
I know every word you said.
You think you're so much better than us,
now your precious little lad is dead.

Remember his favorite picture of us?
the one taken in black and white?
Well I ripped out the side that you were on
and I threw it in tonight.

you can't touch me now.

He's better off gone, believe me,
you only used him for his words you stole,
for your cocktail party punch lines,
and your filthy rock and roll.

You know, when I watched him go under,
I held my head and cried.
I saw the last bubble come up, where he was,
and I turned around and went back inside.

But I was there, when he sang his last haunting song,
which is something I can't say for you.
I knew in the end, I had to let him go,
it was the best thing that I could do.

you can't touch me now.

And now my nights are longer,
sometimes it's hard to catch my breath,
because I've still got the vision,
from the night of Simon's death.

But the seasons changed and I was thinking,
what's this life about?
So I broke through the ice and I went in,
and I drug Simon out.

It was hard to bring my brother back,
he was such a righteous soul.
For sixteen nights and days he cried
while he was shaking off the cold.

Now he's been so different,
he rolls his own cigarettes.
And the more he digs up old memories,
the more powerful he gets.

So if I were you and I saw him,
I would run, that's what I'd do,
because Simon's gone through some changes,
and he's got some new words for you.

and you can't touch me now.

The Fight

by

Simon

Kickin' me in the head with their boots
kickin' me in the head with their pool cues too
kickin' me in the head with everything they got
draggin' me and two friends across the parking lot

we didn't do nothin'
we didn't say nothin', but we weren't scared.
I was a little broke open,
my fists clenched
and my teeth bared

it lasted quite awhile,
somehow we made it to my car
we went about a mile
and that's when we started laughing hard

you know, we were lucky,
one of us could've really been hurt
but I didn't think about it
they just stung my pride and ruined my shirt

So we went back to Jay's house,
his wife put on us ice and cleaned us up
we had a few more laughs and a few more drinks,
we were bloody but still talkin' tough

and then we woke up,
man, we were sore
there were only three of us now
but we called up a couple more

and we all got together
out by the railroad tracks
and all afternoon we're pumpin' up
'cause tonight we're chargin' back
