Daydream

by

Eric Shipman

I lay here
Tangled in sheets and bedcovers;
Thinking about life and its inscrutable ways,
As the mid-morning breeze blows fiercely
Through my open window.

The sun shines
It orange rays of heat through
The thick pine trees that shade my room,
And onto my soft, white skin
Which quickly absorbs the harsh rays.

I lay here
Buried in bedcovers and wishful thinking;
My body always succumbing to the
Actions and spurious dreams my mind constructs,
With nothing left to the imagination.

Time stands still
Within the solid confines around me;
Emptiness and lonliness,never fleeting,
Are the great Conquerors of a man's soul;
Harbingers of the world's ironic justice.

I lay here
Covered in sheets and heroic smiles;
Thinking about life and its inscrutable ways;
Never forcing myself to give in
And never retreating into the crowd.
