For Yeats and Spencer, My Antagonists

by

Garrett Buhl Robinson

Shall I leave the furrows of books and thought
to wander orchards blossoming fair
with sweet aroma silly through the air
and neglect the labors of steel ploughs wrought?
Is the shining life I distantly saught
only of the imagination's glare,
a slueing phantasmagoria's stare,
a blinding hope still born with labors naught?
The boughs are heavy, shall I pluck their lot?
I could pick these trees till they're standing bare
and slurp the succulent pulp without a care,
could this surpass Nature's rejected rot?
What comes to fill desires with wanton haste
does spit the naked pits in gravel waste.

Forgiveness or Foreclosure/ Catenated Clauses

Any god who confesses jealousy
must be infirmed with a deficiency
and what god with an inadequacy
is worthy of worship? Divinity
should be independent eternally
and not sustained by mere mortality.
As Prometheus contrived, gods' alters
that crave blood are to be offered offal.

Ritual is logical inquiry,
a faithful devotion for creation
transubstantiated in fervid minds
sanctified inside communal shrines
refreshed with a brook's vocalized vision
reflecting rising spires while poring over poetry.
