Who Will Mother Hold Now That Her Baby is Gone

by

David Revill

Mother bore her heart when she gave
Birth to her child, she bore her legacy.
She nursed her future from the womb
To the cradle and from the cradle to elementary.

She placed all her dreams and all her
Teachings, all her joy and all her pride
Into the life that her life brought forth.
To mother was born a child.

From birth mother poured all her heart
Into this wee one, swearing that this child
Would be an image of joy, her joy,
That which she shared with her one love.

From a bundle to a splint
Mother would embrace the heart,
A living example of what she felt
Inside, true love and joy.

Mother would glow with pride through the years
Until someone’s else child would wipe her smile away.
So close to seeing an adult from the child she had known,
Who will mother hold now that her baby is gone.
