The Oak Tree

by

Brooke Rasmussen

The gnarly branches twisting and turning here and there
the Indians use to live there
under that great oak tree
their remains are all that's left
what use to be is gone
it's in the past under that oak tree
know what's left of the oak tree ?
the beautiful branches swaying side to side
what now is under that oak tree
two little kids playing hide and go seek
running back and forth from that little white house
I look at that oak tree wondering what it has seen in the past.
