By The River Now

by

David A. Prucha

Lying on my back, the bedding of lovely green lawn,
White enamored clouds tickled a sunny,
Summer day of forever deeper blue long gone.

They tickled my boyhood, made me wonder;
And laugh aloud, at the things to come my way;
How I never imagined the crack of thunder!

Years like the river slip and fade in a distance,
Too dark to encourage, whispering a prayer,
To the sunny summer day of pure juvenescence.

Sitting by the river, the edge of hardened stone,
Dark brittle clouds, cross a sultry
Summer day,-- in my heart, a sun once shown.
