Teardrop

by

Elenka Proulx

A teardrop.
First shiny, silver,
Small and cute, happy.
Comes out of its shiny shell
Now brown, still small but big,
Good and saintly.
It drops into my hand and
Its sharp edges softening,
Melting, melting away.
Quickly! Drop it into my mouth!
On the way to my mouth I get
A whiff
of
that sweet,
summery, bad for you,
sledding smell.

In it goes. Those sharp
Edges against the roof
of my mouth.
Getting softer.
my taste buds go wild.
That sweet,
Heavenly but
Forbidden, snow,
Summer days taste.
I hear tap-dancing, cheers,
Bells, and other joyful sounds.
The joy lasts, but
Only for awhile.
For that brief time
I am happy, not
Depressed. Thinking of
Friends, parties,
Summer. Then
Bad takes over.
Bad nutrition.
I pop another teardrop
Into
My mouth.
