compromise

by

Shiva Prasad

By the pond we sat
pensive, sulking and in intropection
She and I, after a quarrel.

Silence wafted in,
decended on my lips
on hers,on the calm waters.
The evening crawled in
lingered and lay by us
the glass fins of a little fish
that slit the waters
quivered and went still
a crane stole in
stood waiting waiting for the kill.

In violence and in silence, we sat
till we heard
the slow flutter of remorse

I saw a tear from her eye
fall into the silent waters
and dissolve as ripples.
The ripples drifted, made
the crane fly away.
The little fish slit its way, away
We saw our smiles drift
far and far along the ripples.

Junto a lagoa nós sentamos
pensativos, amuados e introspectos
Ela e eu, depois de uma discussão.

O Silêncio flutua,
e desce em meus lábios
nos seus, nas as águas tranqüilas.
A noite chega lentamente
hesitante cai sobre nós
as barbatanas transparentes de um pequeno peixe
que corta as águas
treme e fica imóvel
uma garça furtiva
espera em pé para a caça.

Na violência e em silêncio, nos sentamos
enquanto escutamos
o lento temular de remorso

Eu vi uma lágrima em seus olhos
cair nas águas silenciosas
e dissolver com as ondulações.
As ondas vagueiam, determinada
a garça se vai.
O pequena peixe corta a água, distante,
Nós vimos nossos sorrisos ao vento
longe, bem longe das ondulações.
