The Loss.

by

Barbra A. Piper

He watched the paramedics
wheel the body down the hall.
I watched his sorrow raise,
and his courage fall.
Then I saw his black
heart break in two.
Then I knew there
was nothing I could do.
And yes the Devil
has a heart.
And yes it broke
the day that he and she did part.
I sat in silence,
as his tear's did fall like rain.
Nothing I could do would
ever make his life the same.
Never had I ever
seen him cry.
That day the girl on the
table was not the only one to die.
