Light Dispels Darkness

by

Elizabeth Pearson

Day follows day...
Night follows night,
And soon a year passes from sight.

Habits obeyed...
Tight schedules kept --
For mundane taskes we are adept!

The routine of life becomes very dull,
Though moments alloted each one are full.
When satisfaction life is not giving,
So many despair of fruitful living.

How hopeless when one has no goal,
How bleak and how sad is that soul,
To be victim to Satan's ploys
And never know God-given joys!

But the "light of the World" can conquer gloom
If one opens the heart to give Christ room.
Days become vibrant and meaningful, too,
As the Master lives out His life in you!

I AM THE WAY

by

Elizabeth Pearson

"I am The WAY -- no other should you follow."
"I am The TRUTH -- men's wisdom do not swallow."
"I am The LIFE -- without Me days are hollow."

"I am The WAY -- all other roads mislead you."
"I am The TRUTH -- men's grand ideas deceive you."
"I am The LIFE -- all earthly goals will grieve you."

"I am The WAY -- in ME your feet won't stumble."
"I am The TRUTH -- in ME your faith won't tumble."
"I am The LIFE -- in ME your hopes won't crumble."

"No man cometh to the Father, but by Me." John 14:6

CONFINEMENT

by

Elizabeth Pearson

A pet in a pen
One's feet in their shoes
A man in the control
of mind-numbing booze
Criminal in prison
A child's day in school
Wisdom in the mind of a fool
Oxen in yoke
Caterpillar in cocoon
One lone man stranded on the moon
Peas in a pod
A bird in a cage
A lonely exitence upon the world's stage
Sardines in a can
but not God's love within man

CHRISTIAN ENIGMAS

by

Elizabeth Pearson

The Christian life cannot be explained
By the limited human mind...for
When we are weak, we are strongest.
When in turmoil, we know great peace.
When thorns line our way, we experience God's grace.
In times of sadness, we can be glad.
When starved for affection, we are loved by God.
When despairing and defeated, we have hope.
When groping in darkness, with certainty led.
When fretting and restless, given patience.
When others fail us, we know His unfailing love.
When lacking in wisdom, we have His thoughts within.
When unable to pray, by the Holy Spirit aided.
Pilgrims on earth, we own a Heavenly Home!

CHILDREN

by

Elizabeth Pearson

A child is precious to his parents,
Endowed with many a unique trait.
And,through the years they care for him,
His success in life they await.

They watch him stumble, perhaps fall,
As he learns to walk aright,
And Godly examples seek to be
So that he, too, may reach great height.

They train, exhort and punish, too --
But his choices are his own...
They cannot decide his future
Or control him when he's grown.

So, too, God's children are precious to Him,
And each has talents unique.
He lovingly tends to all their needs,
Desiring that His best they will seek.

He wrote wise guidelines in His Word,
Like His Son, to pattern their lives...
He trains, exhorts and punishes, too,
All those who in selfishness strive.

God does not force, but allows free choice --
He desires that we would do our best...
Having experienced His blessings and love,
As His children, can we do anything less?

EVERYBODY NEEDS THE LORD

In sickness or health,
Poverty or wealth..
People need the Lord!

In youth or old age,
Innocent or sage,
People need the Lord!

Famous or unknown,
Surrounded or alone,
Honored or abused,
Broken or enthused,
Good times or bad,
Contented or sad,
People need the Lord!

Imprisoned or free,
Next door or 'cross the sea,
People need the Lord!

Him and her,
You and me...
Everybody needs the Lord!

GOD'S SIMILITUDE

As I was reading my Bible,
A page in Deuteronomy...
I found an amazing statement,
A stark revelation to me!

God told the children of Israel,
"My form you will never see!"
Lest they, like the heathen nations,
Be corrupt through idolatry.

Commanding no idol be made,
To be fashioned from wood or stone,
His presence would live within His chosen,
He'd be worshipped in heart alone.

We do not know His form or face
And will not 'til Heaven be gained.
All pictures of Him then vary,
By man's pet conceptions not stained.

Each individual can know Him
Yes, in myriads of times and ways,
He'll differ to each heart and soul
Until on His likeness we gaze.

HIGHWAYS

Highways are long and tedious
When no cities are in sight --
If you are needing gasoline
Or wanting to eat a bite!

You search for signs along the way
That point to what is needed,
Hoping they won't lead you astray --
Ones so trustfully heeded.

'Tis best to keep to the highway
For detours can cause delay,
Side roads can foil destination --
On the main routes you should stay.

Life's highway may seem long and hard
But God has chartered a map --
If Heaven is your destination,
Don't let those "side roades" entrap!

HUMILITY

"Pride goeth before destruction"
And a "haughty spirit before a fall,"
Beware, O be careful, dear Christian,
For pride can o'ertake us all!

We must think more highly of others
And to elevate self, must reject --
For the Lord, Who knows the thoughts of all,
Our motives can detect!

We are what we are because of His grace,
Humble is (s)he who obeys --
God yearns to have first place in our lives,
To be the object of our praise!
