This ancient bone
As hard as stone
Is all thatís left of him,
Who once stood tall
And surveyed all
Like a reigning King !

Grab this chance
To laugh and dance
This moment may not stay
Luck is a flirt
You canít cling to her skirt
She laughs and sprints away !

The crown on my head
Weighs me down with care,
I wish instead
It were on anotherís head
Leaving my own head bare !

There was a time
When heady wine
Could chase my blues away ,
But since you left
Leaving me bereft
The blues have come to stay !

"In the darkness of the night
I lit a candle for some light
The flame brought the dark alive
Shadows loomed and danced with life
What a sudden eerie change
The room seemed full of creatures strange
Suddenly they crowded round
And encircled me without a sound
One of them about twice my height
Pressed up close, I cringed with fright
Was it just my mind at play
Or did I really hear it say
"Miserable mortal that you are
Do you fancy youíll go far?
We from another world have come
To warn you soon itíll be your turn
Donít forget youíre nothing but
A lousy lump of living mud !"
A shiver of fear went through my frame
In desperation I blew out the flame
The room became all dark again
The shadows vanished whence they came
And I swore Iíd never again light
A candle in the dead of night !"

I wonder why
I refuse to die
Of this gaping hole in my heart
I guess its not
What I earlier thought
A bullet thru my heart !

Letís put an end
To all pretense
And stand revealed in our glory,
That Iím sure
Would be truer
And make a better story!
