Will I Return?

by

Kate Ormerod

A shadow falls upon the ground.
The moon and sun retreat.
The path glows in the light of travelers past,
And travelers yet to come.
I see my path before me,
Well traveled yet unconquered.

I wonder if I shall return,
I am expected to no doubt.
But I will not come back,
Back to the oppression,
Of the travelers yet to come.
It is my turn to walk forward,
My turn to stand tall.
I shall never return.
