Yesterday

by

A. G. Oakes

A shell of my former self
Listen to what they say
I miss the life I lived before
I miss my yesterday

A shining moment
Gone so soon
Like a drifting star
Shooting across the moon

It came so fast
It left the same
Hardly worthy now
Of my famous name

A shell of my former self
What did they used to say
I find myself now
Seeking my yesterday

What happened to me
Why am I this way
This tortured being
All I can do is pray

I guess it's my fault
Too few dues paid
Too many good times
Too much time in the shade

Where, oh where have you gone
In my memories only do you lay
Your lover misses your sweet touch
The touch that is my yesterday
