Darkness

by

Hamed Nusraty

Cool, calm and collective
As the lights shine with a gentle glow
The warmth of the light provides security
Like the gentle, caring touch of a mother's love
The light vanishes, as does the security
The blood rushes down your body
The warmth is no longer
With every second which passes
The heart works harder and faster
Until the only numbing sound
Is the rapid beat of the heart
Bitter chills race up and down the spine
Causing the fear to show like rocks on your skin
Wanting to move
Trying to breath
Yet the fear paralyzes everything
Excitement and fear consume the air
Scanning the darkness
Yet nothing except cold emptiness
The fear persists
As does the everlasting unknown
Of what I am
What may be
What may become of me
Nothing but cold consumes my world
The body is lowered into the unkown realm
Where love is lost
And cold and darkness reign
The light shall never shine as bright
In this mourning and weakened heart
This is reality
Without the glimmering light
Of a mother's love
