On Ebony Night

As nightfall cascades silently to earth
Sprinkling diamond stars across the sky
A pastel moon casts her spotlight
Upon the shed of day below
And winks an approving eye

Dusk, in hush of slumbered sleep
As night sounds echo throughout the still
Listens...shhhh...
In darkened distance of sweet refrain
Is heard the call of a lone Whippoorwill

Quiet, in between the crickets chirps
Softly caresses the ebony night
While Natures orchestra preforming
In rhythmic beat...never stills
Till mornings waking light

Softly, a sun on tiptoe, steels away
The shadows of a slumbering world...
Tapping mornings shoulder as it beckons
The ebony night to her curtain call
As another day unfurls

Water Colour Moon

I see a water colour moon tonight
With edges in faded blur...
Blending into the damp gray of a stormy sky
Seeming to ride on the wisps of misty clouds
As they hurriedly rush by

Winds, in rush before the storm
Push you along in your wayward boat
While cloud sails, in puffy billows, blow
Sailing you over the silvery sea of dew
Where, mist covered, star swept skies
Of shimmering foam softly flow

Wondering where you will sail off to tonight
And where your journey will end
Will you ride with the wind, wherever it blows
And finally reach the shore...
Just as a new daybreak begins?

Silhouette Moon

Behind a veil of gathered blue mist
I see the faint wisps of a silhouette moon
In mellowed glow of starry night skies
With moonbeams strung in tune

'Neath the shimmering, starlight skies
Of shadowed dreams in flow
A moon wrapped in a gauzed, vapory veil
Emits a glimmer of softest glow

It's rays falling faintly across my windowpane
Like curtained drapes of shadowed lace
Drifting across my dreams like flowing clouds
Taking me to some faraway place

Midst stardust and moonbeams swirling
In a foaming sea of glittering dew
I'm carried past wisps of a silhouette moon
To the farthest corners of heavenly blue

I Heard a Silent Night

Nightwings

On threads of silver, hangs a starry silent night
Against the backdrop of a dark blue velvet sky
No moon in glow to cast its shadows of dark and light
No whippoorwill heard singing a lonesome lullaby

The clouds have tiptoed somewhere far beyond
Where the night meets the edges of day
And nowhere is heard an orchestra of crickets
And the 'chirping' instruments they play

The still is heard throughout the silent night
Its crisp, quiet softness felt everywhere
And, midst the glimmer of stars sparkling bright
Is heard the calming sound of nothing there

...and I heard a silent night

Diamond Skies

Like sparkling diamonds strung on silver threads
Dangling in an array of twinkling lights
Stars sprinkled across a night in dream
Cast their prism rays across a silhouette sky

Their crystal clearness in mirrored likness
Of the cloudless dark shadows of dewy night
Shine brightly as an approving moon
Adorned in satin slippers tiptoes quietly by

Moonbeams in play across the seamless curtains
Of a night spread out in breathtaking starry array
Smile as the twinkling rays of prism starlight
Join in as they swirl across the sky and intertwine

Diamond skies bedecked in glitter studded jewels
Feast my eyes as I gaze upon their dazzling display
Little gems for me to gather by the eyeful
To keep as hidden treasures in the vessels of my mind
