The Letter

by

Annemarie Naylor

Be there in the morning,
And please, do not be late.
Tell me that you love me,
Don't make me sit and wait -
Wondering if you will come to me,
Sitting beside the door,
To tell me that you love me,
Like you did before.
Scented by a yellow rose,
I'll lay you upon my pillow.
You'll tell me you don't love me,
But I'll already know.
Your words they cannot hurt me,
My heart cannot be heard,
So tell me you don't love me -
Your love is but a word.
