she smiles sickly
bathed in warm yellow light that floods the floor,
cilmbing up the sheets spilling over the edge of the bed
she describes to me in detail her death and her
freedom
because all she sees is stars and it is magnificent,
could she please do it again?
but the carnival is gone,
the spining sickness has passed and all that is left is
an off-white corner home to a cottoncandysticky
teddy bear snapping his jaws
occasionally at a pesky fly circling his head trying to cause a tremendous agony and being just small enough to do so,
flying round faster than the pink-and-purple open-mouthed
yellow-teethed long-faced bug-eyed merry-go-round
spectators

crawling under the skin and searching for every little nerve,
tweaking each one and i cant stand it any longer
and begin to wonder
if i stare at the pendulum long enough will it begin to slow?but no
it continues and the hands are pointing right at me
and all i can do is point back
