Ode To My Ex

by

Marlene Mulet

He tasted like honeysuckle;
A sweet nectar that embraced my mouth,
pleased my palate,
and fancied my senses.

He spoke like Solomon;
With words captivating and wise,
saturated with love and kindness
and sincerity and humor.

He looked like beauty in its purest form;
My personal Apollo,
with hair of midnight,
and eyes of emerald green.

Actually-

He tasted like battery acid,
a sour and bitter sap that induced nausea,
made me appreciate cough syrup,
and wish for an anesthesia-free root canal.

He spoke like Beavis;
with words bland and insipid,
lacking of intelligence and warmth,
words that woud perhaps arise from a carrot if it were blessed to speak.

He looked like malnutrition in its purest form,
my personal "Feed the Children" charity case,
with hair of frizz and spider-web tangles,
and his eyes were fake.
