A World Unknown

by

Beth Morell

Running, Running, slowly running,
The breath of death upon his neck,
He runs to get away.
But the death comes closer, closer still,
He runs to get away.
The stench surrounds him,
The black flames engulf him,
And down he falls, a lost soul,
Emanating into a world unknown.
Why did he run, why did he flee?
Because in life he did not begin again.

Running, Running, Skipping, Hopping,
The breath of death upon her neck,
She does not run to get away.
But the death comes closer, closer still,
She does not run to get away.
The perfume surrounds her,
The flowers engulf her,
And down she falls, light as a feather,
Emanating into a world quite known.
Why didn't she run, why didn't she flee?
Because in life she began again.
