Futile

by

Pragna Paramita Mondal

There was no violence
in the verses of the night,
no vengeance in the melodies,

no reason to vie
for victory, vibrance
or variety,

to grow vegetative
or vulnerable.

Verbosity is a crime,
verity a vision,
vigilance in vain;

the virtual is our visage.

Vividness void and volatile,
voices vague and voluptuous,
vows not in our vocation.

The vocabulary is vitiated
by excess, the vitality lost,

the polemic was not visible
till vanity was vouchsafed.
A vindication, a validation

that failed and faded.
