Cycle of Abuse

by

Mathew Merrill

A child
cries
as a parent
screams.

A child
cries
and wonders
"Why me?"

A child
cries
as a parent
threatens.

A child
cries
and thinks
"I will run."

A child
cries
and a parent finally
feels sorrow.

A child
sobs
and life
seems better.

A child
smiles
and loves
once again.

A child
laughs
as a parent
screams.

A child cries.

The Story of a Rebel

by

Mathew Merrill

I stand alone in this world around me
wondering if I will see the morrow.
For I am lost as to what I should see,
and I live just for my pain and sorrow.
They scream at me for reasons not known;
the want me to be the one they were not.
And this still holds true:I stand all alone,
and no matter how well they have taught,
I will not learn; but I can't live this way.
Tomorrow I will find the one I love
And just then and only then I will say,
"I no longer stand alone, I am now part of
a duo which can stand the schemes of one."
The story of a rebel is all done.
