The State of the Union

by

W. Andy Meier

She feared to lose me
in a presumed later climb,
We lived together,
she proposed marriage to me,
I promised nothing,
Ladder-less, I did not climb.
But she accepted,
imagining rung o'er rung,
(which I detested)
as expected by women
(friends and family)
whose men were male black widows,
Their web: avoided
but our marriage persisted,
Until bewildered
she listened to the meaning
of my recorded words.

Old Paddy

by

W. Andy Meier

Old Paddy of a Boston suburb
ran miles and danced up his heels,
But often his wife,
Twenty five years his junior,
Would hide his shoes.
As he ran
and danced,
She aged.

The 'Sin' Eater

Family's dimness
Draw the shades so they won't know,
They cannot face that.
