Rondel 1

by

Anthony Mee

Combing his parting into place
To know who he is in the glass,
50'p' on the dresser for gas;
Fingering the dust on the bookcase
And staring again at the mirrored face
Around vacant eyes the wrinkles amass.
Combing his parting into place
To know who he is in the glass.

A sandwich dropped into the briefcase
Then returning into the mass,
An 'also ran' in the Rat-race.
Combing his parting into place
To know who he is in the glass.

Manifesto - Imitating the Classics

by

Anthony Mee

For many years I've slumbered now, my pen laid by
The only truth I've known - the mundane daily day
Where all is silent, all is spent and fossil dry,
No room, nor time for rising up above the lay.
Through loss of faith my soul was left to ruling mind,
No chance to dream or feel that soothing mystery
Of yore - and only lowly thoughts of such a kind
That blot out light and stifle seeds of Poetry.
Now, in mid-life, an inner need and throbbing calm
Return me back to much forgotten verse, to court
Again the Muse and seek to rediscover charm.
Through writing, open out an hidden way to thought.
'Uncramp my frozen spirit, Muse! - and let me roam
About your world of beauty, now; as if at home.'
