Soaked and Burned

by

Ted McIlvenna

I walked in soggy grass and just got soggy shoes
I pulled my soggy shoes off and my socks were soggy too
Now to pull soggy socks off it really is a feat
Finally I achieved it and exposed two soggy feet
Cold and very wrinkled, now as shade of blue!
I massaged them with warm hands, now they are soggy too!
To end this soggy story! A lesson to be learnt!
I stood by a fire to dry me out! Now I am no longer soggy,
I AM JUST PLAIN BURNT!

Brothers in Arms

by

Ted McIlvenna

We have been together wherever evil goes
The British Tommy and the GI Joes
Through First and Second World War
Only God could keep a score
Of those who died for peace and law!

Now a different War it shows
A terrorist one with suicide blows
Its just a job, Lord only knows
To the British Tommy and the GI Joes

They must defend Democracy
For those oppressed in misery
They will serve till freedom flows
The British Tommy and the GI Joes

To all our friends and family
We are one. Will always be.
We will change lifes history
Its the path that we all chose
he British Tommy and the GI joes.

Christmas toast

by

Ted McIlvenna

Heres to you! the kids with aids
Condemned to sad forgotten graves
From ignorance, that well known pain
Given by those who live for gain

Heres to you the prisoner of truth
Committed alone by doubtful proof
Life is four walls and a heavy roof
Amnesty our hope, sharpen your tooth!

Heres to you the battered child
You suffer in silence from actions wild
Those silent tears, the unknown smile
There will be peace in a little while

Heres to you the world at large
I wish you love where peace is sparce
We share this world its in our charge
So hold it close, real love, no scars!

Those Alone

by

Ted McIlvenna

See the children laughing by, under a glorious summer sky Skylarks song in perfect tone, a puppy running with its bone

Its then I thought of those alone.

Beautiful contours of countryside,
Rabbits white tails that hop and hide!

A sparkling river reflects the sun
A distant shout! the race is won.

A heavy blossom on the cherry tree
Your soulful eyes stare into me
It is so wonderful we are free!

Sadly then thoughts start to roam
So I turn and lift the phone
And start to talk to those alone
Its a world that I call home.

Persian Magic

by

Ted McIlvenna

Oh silly me! exclaimed the Flea
As he fell into the briney sea
He kept afloat, then came a boat
Captained by a bearded Goat.

Ahoy! Ahoy! the plaintive plea!
Please save me from this endless sea

Come climb aboard the Goat replied
The Flea leapt in then side by side
They sailed across the morning tide.

I am off to Persia announced the Goat
To buy a carpet for my boat.

A Magic Carpet? asked the Flea
To fly you anywhere you want to be!

A Magic Carpet! thought the Goat
A Magic Carpet for this old boat!
I could fly across the sky
Sail the world as time goes by

He turned and smiled at the Flea
We are off to Persia you and me!

Garden Gazing

by

Ted McIlvenna

Pansy grows next to rose, Marigolds not far away!
Virginia creeps and ascends the walls
Angelica stands elegant, so tall!

Violet and Heather are happy together
As Rosemary perfumes the day.

Through the new mown grass some earwigs pass
With a purpose all of their own.

The wind blows the trees on the sycamore trees
Tempting seeds that soon will be sown

A butterfy flutters from flower to flower
Not stopping to savour the feast!
Then gains some height, then like a kite
Is blown over the roof to thje east.

So you really must pardon
Simple sights in our garden
But then most, can be bettered by least!

Cat to Bat.

by

Ted McIlvenna

Can I love you?
Asked the Cat.
To the little vampire bat

You puncture me
Then lick my blood
I am sure it does you good

I lick it clean when you are gone
Then I miss you little one.

Please come back to me again
I can stand that little pain
Good friends together if you remain.

The bat came back the very next night
The Cat asleep, another bite!
I love you Cat, the bat just sighed.

I love you bat! the Cat replied
But you are dead! the Cat just sighed.

Sniggery Woods. 1943

by

Ted McIlvenna

I remember Sniggery Woods where adventure beckoned with wooden thumb. To me and you and everyone.
To cross the bridge over the brook, it was so exciting to
dare to take a closer look.
There to find so magically, this place of natures mystery
Cheetah the chimp, Tarzan and Jane, would swing through the
trees and play your game.
Mowgli and friends from the Jungle Book. They all played with
me and you.Peter Pan,Wendy lost boys too, Old Captain Hook
and all his Crew. I remember them all in days so true.
Now its just sad for Sniggery Woods, that beautiful magic
now has gone. No mystical place for the young to roam. Not
for children on their own!
But Sniggery is still Sniggery, its just old and tired and
lost its trust, to vandalism and human lust.
Some still love you Sniggery Woods, to those you gave all
thats good. Remember us young and never grown!
And Sniggery good friend, You are never alone!

The night the Rainbow stayed.

by

Ted McIlvenna

The Rainbow disapeared like rainbows do
So disapointing, but nothing new!
The sun went down and the rain just stopped
I was so tired into bed I flopped.

I lay to sleep, then OH! OH!
A shining so bright! from my Window
So many colours just grew and grew
Shone in my bedroom! all of them new!
Coloured shadows I never knew
Not at night! Oh! what a sight!
This was the night the Rainbow flew

I raced to the Window to see if its true
So excited I just flew!
Followed the Rainbow good and true
As on it travelled in every hue

Dancing and prancing, chasing itself!
Silently laughing in happiness wealth
Across the Universe were no one had been
Then split into millions of colours never seen!

I awoke before dawning! Oh what a great dream!
But it can never be true! I wanted to scream!
I just turned over boiling steam
Oh! why does life always spoil a good dream!
I sighed a deep sigh, a tear fell below
Onto my pillow, not in a dream! a little sun seen!
As in darkness glowing! a rainbow forever!
My Own Sunbeam.

Alma Coffell.

by

Ted McIlvenna

Life goes fast, yet sometimes flows
Many people met, really never know!
The culprit is time! it always goes!

But through all lifes losses and gains
There are those that memory remains
Not for fortune or for gain!

There is one! a gentle Belle
To her my love, my wishes well!
It is of course! Alma Coffell!

Untitled To Our Edward

by

Ted McIlvenna

Edward Clinton McIlvenna
Always a tryer, always a sinner
Its true of us all as beginners
But from boy to man he is a winner
Though still a sinner!
But Hey! thats true of all of US!
No one in life is perfectly just
Hes just a son to be proud of!
Always a Plus!

Guns Blood Spilling

by

Ted McIlvenna

How to stop this guns blood spilling!

STOP THE GUNS! STOP THE KILLING!

Today its Virginia in a Top College
Teaching lifes values and great knowledge.

But what of tommorow? more killing to see
Tallahassie or Tennessee?
How to stop this blood spilling

STOP THE GUNS! STOP THE KILLING!

No gunshot blood will ever flow
If mindless guns in mindless hands just GO!
In the US! there is no War!
So just are what these killing guns for?
To kill innocent beasts?
Its time that ceased!

If You are so Brave! You son of a gun!
Why on your own do you turn and run

Stand Without!

At Life just Shout!

Stop the Guns! stop the Killing!

That is the Way

TO STOP BLOOD SPILLING!

Theres Abbi and Edward, Amanda too!
Three Special Children concieved by you!
Times were tough but we came through
Untill came another Two!

Liam and Mash!

That Turned the Screw!

Life was never perfect

In Gods Exams

I had to learn all the Scams!

But all came through like McIlvennas DO!

Not Perfect but they will Do!

In a World that turns the screw!

Especially to a kid like me!

When everyone died and left it me to me!

So why do I still have to go to Purgatory?

My Kids are Fine! Better than me!

I should know better! sixty nine going on seventy

I am still responsible

For Being Me!

The 1948 Bus to Liverpool Town.

by

Ted McIlvenna

We all went to Town in a double decker bus
Me Mam, me Dad an all of us
Aunty Mary, Uncle Sam, Joey an Floey me an Stan
(An we all ad butties filled with jam)

" Now listen You Lot!" shouted me Dad as we sat upstairs on the double decker bus, me Mam, me Dad an all of us. "We are going to Town to see the sights, so I dont want no swearin an I dont want no fights!"

So we all sat quiet on the double decker bus, me Mam, me Dad an all of us! (I was starvin so I bit a crust)

The Bus Conductor then rang the bell, to tell the Driver all is well, then the Bus started moving! we were off to Town! as out me Dads pocket fell half a crown, we all made a move. But me Dads face wore a scown an we all sat down! " That is to pay! for going to Town!" so we sat back an made no fuss! Me Mam, me Dad an all of us!

Suddenly! out of the windows the sky went dark! Angry black clouds right overhead! " That sky looks looks frightening!" our Floey said. Then frightening forked lightning struck the sky! it struck again just nearby, great rumbling thunder, thundered loud, thundering from a big black cloud. Big winds were blowing! big rain pouring down. Old people were soaked and staggering as we passed by, helped by others hurrying by. We all watched from inside the bus, " Dont worry!" said me Dad " Their the same as us! just dont want a load of fuss! So we all sat back down in the double decker bus, me Mam, me Dad an all of us. Then as if by magic out came the sun! the big black clouds were on the run! Our little Stan once quiet with fright, now laughing aloud with all of his might! jumping on seats and causing some frowns. "Ay!" said me Dad! " Stop acting the clown!" So everyone then just settled down back into the big seats of the double decker bus, me Mam, me Dad an all of us.

Then upped jumped Joey! "Look!" he shouted! " Straight ahead! theres the Liver Buldings an the Pierhead, the River Mersey ferries goin across to Birkenhead, the Giant Ships! an theres that shop that sells Fish an Chips!"

So we had come to our journeys end. There was Town like a big old friend, one by one we got off the bus, me Mam me Dad an all of us. We walked to the Cafe by the Landing Stage, wind from the Mersey blowing a rage! We had mugs of tea an threepenneth of chips. The tea was hot and warmed our lips. Then it was off to Town to see the sights as strong winds were blowing and giving us bites. Big black clouds made day to night. Finally our Floey gave me Dad a push! He winked back, like to sister a brother! we all then just looked at each other! then we made a rush all the way back to the double decker bus. We were going to be warm on Christmas Day! Just like Our Saviour in the hay who gave us Trust! We will be warm on the Double Decker Bus

Me Mam, Me Dad An All Of Us!

The Last Question

by

Ted McIlvenna

On a seat to sit amongst all of lifes ever born community
It was the Day of Judgement of all Lifes Human History
Everyone ever created was here to see, silently, not free!
Most sick of mind, contortions, abortions, life all to see!
Then it came to me, No lawyer on the bench! I asked in my defence! Hey GOD! WE never asked to BE!

Whispers

by

Ted McIlvenna

You sat alone in the cold just getting old
With snow just falling very slow
With the cold getting crisper
As in the silence heard it whisper
I remember an old fires ember
That sparked and crackled
Then a gentle wind blew through
As if returning to life anew
But slowly it died out without a shout
But Im sure I heard my whisper just like you
You sat by me not long ago
Life was slipping very slow
Finally my pain was set free
My eyes were closed and did not see
But I just know in this eternal vista
You smiled that smile and heard my whisper.

The Devil once was an Angel!

by

Ted McIlvenna

When I was that young deprived boy to man
I ran so clever that extra yard, it was so very hard
I trapped the Devil in me, that we all have been innocently
But I just held him constantly, day and night, no Devil free!
I went without food and water constantly, it was so hard!
But I had to run that extra yard, untill finally the Devil cried, he wept and sighed then describied, I was an Angel untill I lied!
I looked down in sympathy, then let him go free
The Devil looked up with love that my eyes could see
Then handed his soul to me free
Its Power just surged through me!
A Devil in Me! A baton of evil, to carry it on so free!
Look No more! you cannot see me! only these words of once was me.

Hogging Free

by

Ted McIlvenna

To Nature and its loving naturally.

Well, Tonight, What did I see!
A family of Hedgehogs eating with glee
I watched them as they watched me
In that magic moment. We were a We!
They devoured every morsal I had thrown out for the birds
It was a moment to speak! But!
Without words!............

Ignorance 1

by

Ted McIlvenna

Ignorance is a man who lives to old age

Thinks great sage, knows lifes every page

A Family tradition, not knowing others conditions

Ignorance is speaking faster than you can think

Ignoring the fact that you can learn more than just a wink

Ignorance in rhyme is thinking money is more important

Than Time!
