the invisibles

by

Paul E. Maltzer

where do they go
when it's three below
to die
invisible

where do they go
when the blizzards blow
to lie
unmentioned

falling from the public eye
salty icicles
buried in lush snow

two lives

life

complicated so
simple alternatively
just as are two hearts

life

complicated so
simple alternatively
just as our two hearts

to ghosts beyond

by

Paul E. Maltzer

good morning
he died

that i was your father
or you mine, rather

or brother
some other

though i have none
or son

lost midst a throng
dead eyes staring long

pierced straight through me
to ghosts beyond

silent screams
vain dreams

be denied
he lied

then wept
tossed, slept

at least tried
still mourning

the differences

simply are not so
