The Wrong Day

by

Phillip Lipe

A drip of sweat trickles down my spine
The muscles in my shoulders bunching up, oh ease it up and out
The watch is strapped to my wrist it tells the time
Oh every minute, every second look again and timeandtimeagain

(Sigh) Sigh and take another breath, strain to keep it steady
(Breathe) Breathe in through the nose and back out through the mouth
(Think) Think about lilies (in a great big field)
(Think) Think, think about being with her

Fingers drumming to a different beat, my marching band hand
I slosh my Fresca and gin again, I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue
Skittish hopping fidgit moving tripping
Whoops Johnny Johnny whoops Johnny Johnny whoops Johnny
I can't see how I'll ever get to sleep again tonight

(Sigh) Sigh and take another breath, strain to keep it steady
(Breathe) Am I gonna die if it doesn't work out right
(Think) Think about lilies (in a great big field)
(Think) Think, think about being with her
