Scared

by

Amanda J. Lee

Hiding in a corner
Trying to shrink into a wall
Trying to disappear
To not be seen at all

I run away for cover
Too scared to turn around
Afraid of what’s behind me
So I keep my glance turned down

I run and I run
Not knowing where I’m headed
But if I try to stop now
I’ll meet what I’ve always dreaded

So I keep running and running
Never knowing when I’ll be done
Because I’m not even sure I know
What it is I’m running from

My Changing Face

by

Amanda J. Lee

I pass you without a smile
But, my heart, it says hello
I try to act fun-loving and happy
But, my head, it tells me “mellow”

You cannot see my changing face
I keep it hidden from sight
I only let my teary eyes show
When I’m alone at night

Its hard for me to do this
While I know I’m living a lie
The way instead of looking at you
I stare up at the sky

I try to pretend it doesn’t hurt
When I see you with another girl
But, the jealousy, it tears me up inside
And makes my head begin to whirl

I try to close my eyes and think
Of times when life was great
But I know I’m really lying to myself
And I’ll end up nowhere at this rate

Yes, you can’t see my changing face
And I don’t think you ever will
So I’ll just have to keep smiling
And this empty space in my heart I’ll have to fill
