A bad case of Angst

by

Murray Lee

Why are all the good things so childish?

Why didn't we pay taxes and get jobs when
we were knee-high to a grasshopper
so we could build
ice
cream
towers to the
sky now?
why deal with

the bad stuff in the good half of life?

Why trudge nipple-deep in murky water
squishing those we love into the webbing
between our toes
when
we could be running up and down a
deserted beach
jumping the waves?

Now i pluck the people i've killed
from my feet and stick them on a mantlepiece

marvelling at the power of confusion
