Prayer

by

Dee Dee La

As I lay me down to sleep,
I thank you for my son to keep.
He brings me joy all through the day
With all the silly games we play.
And yet when daylight disappears
My heart is suddenly full of fear.
For he is so dear and precious, you see?
I couldn't bear to have him taken from me,
Or I from him, if fate were cruel.
A Mother's heart is a double edged tool.
Overflowing one minute with pure adoration,
Then taunted by horrors of imagination.
Oh, Lord, why to me this burden bestow?
The answer I already know.
He is my headache, my joy, and my son.
And I am his Mother, the only, the one.
