An Indiana Summer Night

by

Kunta

Traveling back
from an unfamiliar place
on a nearly deserted highway
while dusk settles in
the music which has been such a fine companion
is now losing out
Crickets and other assorted insects
bring the familiarity back
and as I pass a lone farmhouse on a hill
with a lone tree in front
I begin to think
as the sun casts its golden veil
over the approaching darkness
and across the vast openess
of an Indiana summer night

I begin to think
of life, in a sense
to see the magnificance
and all of the splendidness
continuing to grow
billowing in strength and power
commanding authority
coming alive
blossoming in due time
and I begin to wonder
as the sun casts its golden veil
over the approaching darkness
and across the vast openess
of an Indiana summer night

I begin to wonder
as they congest-to the west
if other people can grasp
can grasp the concept of this magic
of these gifts
these gifts which require no manuel
or previous experience to enjoy
for they speak for themselves
I then become satisfied
as the sun casts its golden veil
over the approaching darkness
and across the vast openess
of an Indiana summer night
