My Sparrow

by

Varshini Krishnakumar

Sparrow, sparrow,
I love my sparrow.
my sparrow built nests,
in my garden,
on my tree branch.
I can see my sparrow,
through my bedroom window,
I feel happy...happy...

Oh !! Rain

by

Varshini Krishnakumar

Two clouds join together,
to make a big grey cloud.
Ploop! Ploop comes down the rain,
looking like tiny strokes from the sky.

I feel excited when the rain drops
and makes little puddles.
All the trees like the rain
and bugs dance around.

My Pet

by

Varshini Krishnakumar

My pet is a dog,
his name is Chog,
he came for a jog with me;
He stood upon a log
to see the fog,
but was surprised to see a bee.

Untitled

by

Varshini Krishnakumar

Sitting beside his window
In a small room
And what does he see?
Little raindrops falling down
And children playing around in the town.

But what is he doing?
Working, working, working hard
For his family- one and all.
Then, he suddenly feels his doom;
A tear rolls down his cheek.

But then he hears his mom:
"No more work for you my son,
why don't you go out to play?"
He doesn't know what to say,
But just runs out to play.

Now you know that child labour is a big NO
And the world is just for everyone!!!

THE MAN

by

Varshini Krishnakumar

I saw a man
He was poor and wan
So i brought him in
And gave him some drink in a can
He was so pleased
And that made my heart leap, you see

MY STAR

by

Varshini Krishnakumar

A pretty star once winked at me
It was faraway from sight
As I peeped through my curtain
In the midst of a starry night

At dawn it disappeared poof!
But promised to return to me
And at night as i peeped through my curtain
I saw the star full of glee!

BROWN BEAR

by

Varshini Krishnakumar

I am a brown teddy bear
With a black and shiny new coat
I live in the big wide nursery
And own a bright purple boat

At dawn I try to lay so still
For that is the law of toyland
And everyone must follow it
Even the lovely Queen so grand

But at dusk
You'll never guess what we'll do
For at night when Gilly and Sue
Are asleep, the cuckoo will start to coo!

That will be the signal for us to wake up
So the Queen said
That will be the time for us to get up
Out of our pretty beds

We'll have the time of our life
Dancing and singing and having fun
The little toy elephant
Making us laugh by just a run

But as soon as the first streak of dawn appears
We'll scramble into our beds
Pull up our bedsheets and pretend to sleep
Nodding our little heads

But there is a point I did forget
For this is the the thing that I suspect
Little Sue coming and peeping at us
And we make her try to forget

So maybe you did hear
A funny small noise
And came to see us
And we tried to make you forget

The Naughty Doll

by

Varshini Krishnakumar

There was a naughty doll
She was so small
And believe it or not !
She used to boast a lot!

The toys were terribly bored
With the naughty doll's talk
of her riches and money
And her own pet giant hawk

And you know what they did?
They went to the little gnome ,Sid
So Sid agreed to get rid of her boasting
And this is what he did

He went to the playroom
And took a flower with him that would bloom
Two whiskers, a rock and a single seed
was all that Sid the gnome would need

He talked to the naughty doll many a thing
And gave her a little shiny ring
But what they talked no one could hear
even though they tried to lenthgen their ear

But one thing knew after that
That little naughty doll was not as boastfull as a cat
So tell me if there is a naughty kid
For I'm sure I can tell you where to find Sid!

Underwater Life

by

Varshini Krishnakumar

Life under water is bubbling with bliss
Sharks, hammerheads and tiny little fish
We touch the water and a ripple we spread
A commotion for creatures in the sea bed

LOST

by

Varshini Krishnakumar

Have pity on me, I was lost in a crowd
Trying to find a way to get out
My mind was all totally blank
And my brain! Ah! into my chest it sank

I thought of telling the police that I was alone
But who would give me a cellphone?
So I picked up my courage
And looked all around

But I could not see anyone familiar
Even hear a familiar sound
At last I decided to go to the booth
It was free for calls! Ah just my luck!
Everything was going so smooth

I was stuttering and shivering as I picked up the phone
To tell my father that I was alone
He came to me after I told Where I was
And only when I reached safely home
I knew my naughtiness was the cause

A LARGE FAMILY

by

Varshini Krishnakumar

My sister
A disaster
Barging into a family of three
And now to add to four
We are going to have one more

MY NEW YEAR RESOLUTION

by

Varshini Krishnakumar

For my new year resolution,
I wanted to be good
Like stand up to the rights of the nation
But I'm not in the mood

For my new year resolution
I wanted to be kind
Like lead blind people to a station
But others' business I will not mind.

I've thought and thought and thought
Even my parents help I've sought
Many resolution books I went through
And my resolution is -I've got to have something better to do!

MY FISHES

by

Varshini Krishnakumar

I have many fishes
Red, gold and blue
In which shop they bought these coats
I have no clue

They love to swim about
Eating is all they do
I love the fishes so
And my sister does too!

If I were a tree

by

Varshini Krishnakumar

I grew up in the warmth of the dark red sand
Right in the midst of a thousand flowers
Then I grew a root and then a shoot
All with the help of a watering can

And I forgot to mention my friend-
The sunshine, beaming broadly at me
At last all the hard work has paid off
And here I am-A beautiful tall tree

MY FAVOURITE BOOKS

by

Varshini Krishnakumar

HAVE YOU READ MANY BOOKS?
LIKE THE NEST OF THE ROOKS,
I LOVE TOM SAWYER!
AND THE DISPUTES BETWEEN HUCK'S FATHER AND THE LAWYER.
HARRY POTTER IS THE MAIN,
AN IDEAL TIME FOR READING IT, IS WHEN IT RAINS.
NORMALLY, I LIKE BOOKS WHICH IN THEM HAVE ENLIGHT,
SO THE BOOKS I LIKE BEST ARE THE BOOKS THAT I WRITE!

Dog Under The Car

by

Varshini Krishnakumar

MOM,ABOUT THE DOG UNDER THE CAR
I GAVE IT A HERSHEYS CHOCOLATE BAR
IT SNUFFLED AND SMELLED AND SNIFFED IT
AND GAVE IT A TRY,BIT BY BIT
AND IT DID'NT SEEM TO LIKE THE DARK CHOCOLATE
MAYBE CAUSE IT WAS TOO BITTER
SO I THINK I'LL GO BACK INSIDE AND GET
SOMETHING ELSE FOR HER AND HER LITTER

MOM,ABOUT THE DOG UNDER THE CAR
I GAVE IT SOME OF MY FAVOURITE MILK
I DON'T KNOW,BUT IT LOOKED THE COLOUR OF TAR
AND I GAVE IT TO THE FURRY BALL OF SILK
IT TASTED IT LITTLE BY LITTLE
AND SNIFFED IT THOUROUGHLY ONCE OR TWICE
AND I DON'T THINK IT WAS GOOD,MIGHT'VE BEEN SOUR
IT PUSHED IT AWAY AND I THINK I'LL GIVE IT RICE

WHAT? YOU FORBID ME TO FEED IT?
I KNOW,IKNOW,IT'S JUST A TOY
AND I'M PUSHING ITS HEAD AS THOUGH SNIFFING
I KNOW,IKNOW,I'M WASTING FOOD
THAT I'M EMPTYING THE FRIDGE WITHOUT CARING

The Park

by

Varshini Krishnakumar

I don't wanna leave the park
I want to try the swing,
I want to hear the lark
Hear the church bells ring

Why don't you come along
Prance about and play,
You never know how fine it is
To play in the park all day!!!

How he fought for us !
He fought just by arguing
He made our country free
Of the freedom struggle
He fought for you and me!
And yes,that person is Gandhiji!!!!!!!!!
