The Ingenue Has Had An Epiphany

by

Meg Kirby

She had a new walk now.
She had the strut of an ocelot, the iron proud stance of a lion.
A sly tigress smile; unafraid- unashamed.
She was an intense origami, geometry of skin,
intricately, finally beautiful.
Mouth strong-
lips unafraid of creating war, peace, passion or fear.
Hair twisted long like an anime lover's, eyes like defiance now.
Now and after all.
Now- no more red-rimmed blinking.
No more flutter, sigh and look away.
No more gentle deference, choking on words like a cotton rag.
Now they crane their necks for a better look, and she justs keeps on
walking.
