Mother?

by

Lindsay Kimmell

I see your face
Is it really you?
Are you the person that I once knew?
The one I loved and the one I cherished?
For I thought you had surely perished
I began to see less and less of you
You had other things that you wanted to do
You were no longer my mother, no longer my friend
Our relationship had come to and end
You dismissed my love with a wave of you hand
And instead you reached for that twelve ounce can
You became a person I never thought you would be
A person who caused us misery
Some nights I cried and some nights I prayed
Anything to end your drunken parade
So is this you, Are you really here?
Or is this the result of your dear friend beer?
