Easter Butterfly

by

Dick Jewell

A butterfly found me today
She clung to my shoulder as if longing to stay
The message that she seemed to say
I'm going home without delay

Into the air I released her to fly
Hoping she'd dance into the sky
Yet she turned around before my eyes
I think she knew that she would die

I placed her gently on a branch
Her wings beat slowly in death's dance
To live I gave her every chance
Please be gone when next I glance

One last look I thought I'd take
Oh please be gone for heaven's sake
Then I felt my heart would break
She had invited me to her wake

To my shoulder again she flew
Please god, show me what to do
Oh Lord, to me this all is new
Why must she die?...I ask of you

When she found with me her final rest
I heard God speak, I felt his breath
Behold this creature whom I blessed
There is a reason for her death

The message God wants me to retain
All things made are His to claim
And when to resurection I shall come
I too will be with God's Son

Her beauty was her treasure chest
Her form was entrusted with me to rest
She's now inside my picture frame
Upon her wings I see God's name

A Talk With My Garden

YOUR COLORS ARE FADING, YOUR BLUES AND YOUR GOLDS
YOU PINKS AND YOUR YELLOWS ONCE MINE TO BEHOLD
THOUGH I WATER AND FEED YOU AND TEND TO YOUR BED
YOUR ONCE ONCE BRILLIANT COLORS HAVE FADED INSTEAD

Our colors aren't fading, our blues and our golds
Our pinks and our yellows are still here to behold
Our nectar flows fertile from our rich nurtured soil
Breathe in our fragrance from our well perfumed oil

A new beauty you've planted has captured your mind
With her colors exquisite and fragrance so fine
We've made room in our bed and our colors we'll share
For once we all started out as your beauty so fair

As she thrives in our bed our beauty you'll see
Our colors will merge and again you'll be pleased
And when our fragranced blend to conquer the air
You'll again lose your reason you had to compare

FORGIVE ME, MY BEAUTIES, AGAIN YOU ARE RIGHT
YOUR BEAUTY HAS BLENDED AND RECAPTURED MY SIGHT
YOUR PINKS AND YELLOWS, YOUR BLUES AND YOUR GOLDS
ARE ALL GIFTS FROM GOD WHICH I'M PLEASED TO BEHOLD
