Formaldehyde

by

Jenaferre James

Formaldehyde

Its stench stuck in the holes of my head
Covering me with feelings of dread
It makes my brain spin about
A voice deep inside wants to cry out
My skin is creeping
My heart is beating
Heavy in my throat
My voice, a blue note
Ravens aviate in a darkend sky
My soul takes notice, begins to fly
Leaving an empty body to moulder
Eyes becoming colder
The smell of formaldehyde
My life,
Denied.

My Heritage

by

Jenaferre James

My heritage is scrambled
Like the eggs I had for breakfast
Itís twisted and turned
An oxymoron, a mosaic
A jigsaw puzzle missing a piece or two
Maybe one chewed
By a mixed dog
A mutt, like me
Iím told thereís some Irish
And there just might be
Some Indian in my blood,
But itís something "we donít speak of"
I think my Dadís German
And partially French
Although I donít like to think
Of that consequence
I have never known
A story of old
That my ancestors
Sat around a fire and told
To children eager to hear the tales
Of the days
And the ways
And what they used to say
I will never know
Whose shoes I must fill
Who can give me the will,
Or whose dreams to fulfill
There is no past for me to conquer
No history to ponder
No trail to wonder
But there is a future
In my heritage
One that I can paint
Filled with colors
And ancient wonders
And seven different saints
My history is now her story
Forever to be told
The way I tell today
With tales of gold,
The life of the old
And our very special ways.
