My Soul

by

Donna S. Jackson

My soul is empty; it's dead inside.
I'm searching for something I just can't find.
God give me strength, please show me a sign.
I only seek happiness that I can call mine.

I know that I'm not perfect I've made many mistakes in life.
I've always been a mother; I've always been a wife.
I'm caring and giving to all those around,
But I am who I am and that's all I can be.
I try to be there for everyone,
And I only seek someone who loves me for me.

When I give myself to someone, I give him my all;
I think that's the way it should be.
So why can't I find someone in this world
That will give as much back to me?

I've given so much as the years have gone by,
Without expecting anything in return.
I've lost sight of myself along the way,
And I've been left with a soul that just burns.
