Abrams' Bosom

by

Tim Ingold

He who came to the desert tonight
Wrapped in sixty tons of raging steel
Had never thought he'd kill a man
Right now he kills with zeal

Load High Explosive Anti-Tank;
Firing SALVO; smoke sights on;
Ten times setting; target ranging;
Make him number twenty-one

In the instant of the catling's cut-
GIVING HEAT, MELTING TO PIECES
The feeling of a distant blow-
Then nothing more; he sighs and breathes

And, with a smile upon his face
A SUDDEN BURST, THE SHRAPNEL FLYING
He hides the bulging in his pants
And dreams and drifts and sees her lying
On silken covers, eyebrows raised
NO HALON GAS! The tank crew burns
Trapped in the Russian dinosaur
While unimpaired his turret turns
To burn and rage forevermore.
